"Preschool Pow Wow"

Today was your Native American Celebration at school. Your class has been talking about pilgrims and Indians in preparation for Thanksgiving. I was lucky enough to watch you all string your beads for the necklaces you wore. Then, the whole class got a chance to help with making cornbread to add to your feast of homemade applesauce, corn on the cob (you shucked it), and cream that you helped shake into butter. After we gave thanks and ate the feast, Miss Sheila shared some of her Native American culture with us. We learned how resourceful Indians were, and how they didn't waste anything. We learned about Indian Braves and princesses, and she even showed us a couple of dances. Each of you had Indian names too. You were "Fast Bear." Finally we were able to see all of the crafts you had been working on: a felt teepee, corn made from a water bottle, and even a piece of pottery! It was a great program, and we are all so proud of all the work you did!
