"Catch of the Day"
This evening was the fishing rodeo at Asbury. Landon, you and Daddy were a fish wrangling duo, while Mommy, JuJu, Poppie, and Shelby cheered y'all on. We enjoyed hamburgers and hotdogs on the lawn before heading down to Martin Pond where the rodeo began. Daddy scoped out a spot for y'all and the fishing got under way. It wasn't very long, and you got a nibble. Once you and Daddy reeled him in, you had to head to the judges' table to log it. You caught three fish in all, and by that time, your interest had started to wane, and you were distracted by the leftover worms. You played in the dirt until you insisted on a "wet wipe." Once time was called, we all gathered around in the pavillion to receive the awards. You won the award for "the coolest fish" and a t-shirt door prize!

"Wild Blue Yonder"
Today was the Holiday in Dixie airshow out at Barksdale. This was your first real airshow, Landon. Now, we know cars are really your thing, but we thought you might like seeing some military airplanes, up close and personal. After all, those B-52s that keep us safe are always flying over our house, and now was your chance to actually check one out. So you, Daddy and Mommy headed out to the base. You were a little worried about how loud it was going to be, but we took your earmuffs to ensure it wouldn't hurt your ears. We got to climb aboard a Blackhawk helicopter, a huge cargo plane, and of course, a B-52! You even picked a B-52 for your souveneir! Over on the flightline we saw the cool B2, a B-52 dropped "bombs," and the pi`ece de re'sistance, the Thunderbirds! It was so awesome to see them do all their tricks and zooming around. It is really amazing to see how close they come to each other flying at mach speeds! There was one maneuver they did that caught us really off guard. One plane separated from the group and then snuck up on us when we weren't expecting it. Now, that was loud! All in all, I think you really enjoyed the airshow.

"Don't Feed the Animals"
The springtime or fall are the only two times you can go to the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans and not die of a heatstroke. So before our French Quarter Festivities started, we decided to take a trip with DeeDee and Miss Stacy and two of her three boys. It was a beautiful, sunny day, with a cool breeze blowing; we couldn't have hoped for better weather. Miss Stacy had her wagon and Shelby was happy to stroll in her stroller. We got to see all the zoo classics: elephants, white tigers, an assortment of primates, including a little baby orangutan that was too cute for words. Shelby, you really liked watching them swing from tree to tree. You boys loved palling around together; you really miss them. Y'all had a blast scrambling around on this old, oak tree that had sprawling low branches that beckoned to be climbed on. We got up close and personal with the majestic giraffes and watched the zookeepers toss chicken parts to the hungry alligators. We hit the carousel on our way out, and even got the opportunity to pet the boa constrictor. It was a wonderful way to spend the day with old friends.

"iPhone? My Phone"
Daddy helped Mommy get caught up with the times and technology, and got me an iPhone for my birthday. I've found it to be helpful and a lot of fun. And Landon, you know how to work it as good as I do! I made sure to download several games you would like too. Bug squash and Memory are two of your faves. I love the deep concentration that is on your face in these pictures JuJu took while y'all waited for me to come out of the grocery store.
In deep thought...
"Carousel Fright"
We spent the afternoon with JuJu at the Boardwalk today. We had a good lunch at a little pizza/Italian place and shopped at some of our favorite kid stores like Gymboree and Osh Kosh. As we were finishing up our trip, we took a stroll down to the carousel. Landon, you love the carousel and like to ride multiple times, jumping from horse, to rabbit, to bear, to crawfish; you like to ride them all. Shelby had never ridden before by herself. (She had been one other time, but I rode with her.) As I sat her atop the bear, she seemed to be fine, but once it started to spin and the music came on, one might say she "freaked" out. But Mommy was right there, and once she realized it wasn't going to kill her, it was actually kind of fun! I'm sure as you both get bigger, we'll be adding all sorts of amusement park rides to our repetoire, but for now, we'll keep it simple and ride the carousel!

"Oh What a Beautiful Morning"
The Easter Bunny came! He hid all of your dyed eggs last night, and since you were first up, and Shelby doesn't know about finding eggs, we let you at them. You were able to find every single egg with a little help from Daddy. Once Shelby got up it was on to the baskets. You two were so excited this morning to find your Easter baskets overflowing with goodies left last night. Landon, you knew just what to expect, but this was Shelby's first. She could not crawl to her basket fast enough! She was delighted to find candy and lollipops, a strawberry shortcake doll, and a sweet, cuddly lamb. You both devoured some treats before getting ready for church. I coordinated you in pink and green. You both looked just picture perfect!
